Jefferson County is blessed with the most miles of trails per capita than almost anywhere else in the country. The "Flying J" open space park is one of the newer ones. This park is located at the intersection of Hwy 73 and Shadow Mountain Road, near Conifer.
Begin hiking on the Junction House trail. After 0.6 mi. come to the junction with the Shadow Loop Trail. Take the trail on the right. After 0.4 mi. further , cross a dirt road. Shortly on your right you will see an old plow on the right of the trail from the early ranching/farming days in the area. Just beyond this on your left lie the remains of an old 1800's wagon. Continue about 100 yds. down the trail and you will see a large pile of smooth boulders off to the right of the trail. Walk to the left of the upright rectangular one. The, Facing the largest boulder, resist the urge to climb it and instead walk 23 paces around the rock pile to your right. Inside the foot-wide gap to your left lies the treasure!
